University Place/Campus Residence

CRISIS AND PROBLEM SITUATIONS

To request a counselor:

 Weekday:      University Counseling   357-5621  (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM)

After Hours:   University Police         357-5431  (nights and weekends)

Between the hours of 5 pm and 7 am of each day, a staff member is the first line of security for students residing in University Place/campus residence halls. Moreover, between the hours of 12 am and 6 am of each day, the residence hall security monitor is the first line of security for residents. It is crucial that students holding these positions be aware of residence hall emergency procedures. Procedures will be the same, regardless of the residence hall.

Fire Alarms: In the event a fire alarm sounds, staff will stay at their assigned positions until the lead instructs him or her to leave the building. In case of emergency call the University Police at (5431) and someone should remain at the front desk to answer questions and help guide students in the right direction. Staff should start to evacuate the building and check rooms to ensure everyone is out of the hall in a timely manner. All doors will be used to evacuate residents when the fire alarm sounds.

Intoxicated residents: Should a resident return to the residence hall visibly intoxicated, but not attempting to physically harm themselves or any other resident, the Hall Director or another staff member should be contacted. If the student seems to need an ambulance the University Police should be called immediately.

In the case of an emergency, University Police should be called immediately. Notify the lead on duty or the staff member on duty of the situation.  When in doubt call the staff member that is on duty or automatically call the university Police @ 5431.

Any staff or student injured on the job should contact their supervisor immediately. An incident report must be filed and the University Police must be contacted as well. Staff should call University Police for an ambulance to transport a student to the hospital.
